NPFL: Ayeni Resumes at Enyimba as Barau Steal a Point in Aba

Enyimba FC have confirmed the appointment of Ayodeji Ayeni as their new Technical Adviser a few hours to the kick of their matchday 21 match against Barau FC on Sunday which ended in a stalemate.

Ayeni joins the Aba-based club from Nigeria National League (NNL) side Crown FC, replacing veteran coach Stanley Eguma, who was relieved of his duties in November.

Announcing the appointment on Sunday, the nine-time Nigeria champions welcomed the new coach in a brief statement:

“The touchline has a new leader. Welcome, Coach Deji Ayeni.”

The appointment was swiftly followed by Ayeni’s first outing on the Enyimba bench, as the People’s Elephant were held to a goalless draw by Barau FC in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 21 encounter at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

The result underlined the scale of the task facing the new Technical Adviser. Enyimba’s struggles this season have been well documented, with the club currently sitting 11th on the NPFL table after 21 matches.

Ayeni now faces the challenge of stabilising performances and results as he seeks to revive the fortunes of the Aba giants in the second half of the campaign.
