The first South West derby of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2025/2026 is here.
Shooting Stars Last South West Derby against the Oga Boy’s Ikorodu City ended in an unsporting outing as the end result was the board of the Nigeria Premier Football League imposed a fine of N5 million on Shooting Stars Sports Club over fans’ attack on the Ikorodu City entourage at the Lekan Salami stadium.

Players and officials of Ikorodu City needed the intervention of the Nigerian Army operatives before they could exit the stadium in Ibadan after a goalless draw against 3SC.
As it stands, Ikorodu City earned two points from a barren draw in the league opener trip to Ilorin to face the Nigeria Federation Cup Champion Kwara United and the first home match against Elkanemi Warriors.
Nurudeen Aweroro, former Ikorodu City gaffer joined Shooting Stars after finishing fourth in the league last season alongside Adepoju Samuel Tobi popularly known as “Oga Nla Media” as their new Sporting Director. Tobi joined the following successful stint as director at Ikorodu City FC and is among the youngest Sporting Directors in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Aweroro also guided the Oga Boys to the semi-finals of the President Federation Cup, in which they were ousted by eventual finalists Abakaliki FC.
He led Ikorodu City to a fourth place finish in the NPFL last season – in what was their first-ever appearance in the Nigerian top-flight and Tobi Adepoju as the sporting director witnessed an embarrassing outing in the last South West Derby but in twist of turn, they are now the landlord in Ibadan still hungry for maximum points after the new revolution in the team led by the arrival of the new manager Lekan Salami.
