Remo Stars attempted to respond in the second half and made a double substitution in the 65th minute, introducing Samuel Anakwe and Gibson Theo in place of Victor Mbaoma and Michael Ibe in search of an equaliser.
Ikorodu City were forced into a change of their own in the 73rd minute when Kelechi picked up a knock and was replaced by Dagogo Ibifubara.
Despite sustained pressure from Remo Stars, Ikorodu City remained compact and disciplined to see out the contest and secure all three points.
The defeat compounds a difficult run for the defending champions, who had earlier suffered a 3–2 home loss to Bendel Insurance in Abeokuta and have now fallen to another narrow defeat in the fiercely contested South-West derby.
