NPFL : Akwa Utd Mourns Isong Isang

The Management, players and the entire staff of Akwa United Football Club received with great shock the sudden demise of its former chairman Obong Isong Isang who passed away on Friday December 2, 2022 after a brief illness.

Obong Isong Isang was the Chairman of Akwa United FC from 2007-2015. He was a one-time member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency. As a footballer, he played for Kofine FC, Jetimo, Flash Flamingos and Calabar Rovers FC.

In a reaction to the sad news, chairman of Akwa United Elder Paul Bassey described the deceased as a passionate and brilliant football administrator with wonderful experience which made him successful as a player, politician, administrator and an entrepreneur.

“This is a terrible news for me as a personal friend to Isong Isang and to all of us at Akwa United. Death is a natural and inevitable path for all mortals but taking him away at a time like this saddens us all.

“Isong was the chairman of Akwa Ibom State Football Stakeholders Forum and his demise is a monumental loss to the entire football fraternity in the state and beyond. His wealth of experience and positive contributions will surely be missed as we look forward to repositioning football in Akwa Ibom State.

“On behalf of Akwa United Football Club we pray God Almighty to grant his family the strength to bear the irreparable loss and grant his soul eternal repose, Amen”.
