NPFL 2022/23 : We Are Determined To Finish Strong – Ayeni

With four matches before the end of the regular 2022-23 Nigeria Premier Football League season, head coach of Akwa United Ayodeji Ayeni has revealed that his team is on course to end the season on a high, stressing that his boys will keep fighting for all available points.

Akwa United will engage Kwara United on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Four O’clock in the afternoon at the Nest of Champions. The Matchday 15 fixture was shifted from Sunday to Monday by the Interim Management Committee due to the CAF Confederation Cup Quarter Final match between Rivers United and Young Africans that was fixed at the Nest of Champions.

The Promise Keepers are third in Group A with 23 points from 14 games comprising six victories, five draws and three loses while Kwara United are 8th on the log with 13 points from the same number of games.

In a pre-match interview with the club’s website www.akwaunitedfc.com, coach Ayeni said his team is in good shape to fight for all three points on Monday.

“Gradually, we are getting towards the end of the season and our four remaining games are very crucial to us because we cannot afford to drop any more points. That is why we have made up our minds to approach all those games with a positive mindset.

“We are still focusing on our target which is to make it to the playoffs and for us to qualify, we need to win our games. We know that the match with Kwara United will be a tough one and we are fully prepared to give our best to ensure we get all three points.

“In our last two games, we only managed to get one point from a possible six and we have to recover those points that we lost. I’m happy that my boys are all in good shape and are hungry to play so it’s up to us to do our best and ensure we record victory on Monday”.

In the first installment of this fixture in Ibadan, Kwara United recorded a 2-1 win over Akwa United. Both teams have met 13 times in the past, the Promise Keepers have four wins to Kwara United’s five while four of those meetings ended in draws.

The 2021 champions have played seven matches at the Nest of champions so far this season and have picked up five victories, one draw and one loss. They will be aiming to continue their fine home form when they go head-to-head with Kwara United who have one win and two draws in their seven previous visits to Uyo.

The match will kickoff at Four O’clock in the afternoon and there will be live updates on all Akwa United social media platforms.
