NPFL 2022/23 : Rangers Set For League Kickoff In Awka

Management of the ‘Flying Antelopes’, Rangers International F.C has assured its numerous supporters that the club was physically, psychologically, and mentally set for the start of the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League which kicked off over the weekend in Uyo where the only match-day 1 took place with an ‘Oriental Derby’ clash against Abia Warriors in Awka.

Administrative Secretary of Rangers, Barrister Ferdinand Ugwuarua made this disclosure, Wednesday, at the club’ corporate headquarters during a media parley with the sporting press led by SWAN, Enugu chairman, Gideon Iwueke.

Ugwuarua, in his opening remarks, stated that the management and technical crew were in agreement with achieving the set goal for the season which includes picking a continental ticket and even winning the league diadem at the end of the abridged league season, stressing, “I am optimistic of the team achieving our set target at the end of this season. Quality players have been acquired to beef up our chances of playing continental football as well as emerging champions of the league. The management is working in tandem with the technical crew to see that we achieve what we set out to get as a show of appreciation to our supporters all over the world.”

On the challenge of prosecuting its home matches away from home at the Awka City Stadium, the youthful scribe said, “No doubt, we would have loved to play before our numerous supporters and followers in Enugu at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium but with the renovation work yet to be completed, we have to move to Awka where we also enjoy large followership. However, I am optimistic that playing away from home will not affect our chances as we have a formidable squad to draw talents from. Our first match against Abia Warriors on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 15.00 hours will serve as a perfect take off for us in Awka.”

Also speaking at the event, technical adviser of the team, coach Abdul Maikaba, stated that he has a massive squad from which to draw talents to defend the colors of the club in the abridged league with finishing amongst the top three teams in the group was the prime target from where they would challenge for the trophy and continental ticket.
