NPFL 2021/22 : Referees Told To Overcome Intimidation, Report Attacks To Appropriate Quarters

Referees appointed by the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, through the NFF Referees Committee for the NPFL matches have been instructed not to be cowed by the antics of teams to ensure the remain objective in officiating.

President of the Nigeria Referees Association, NRA, Otunba Tade Azeez said that the body while reviewing recent incidents in the domestic league enjoins the referees to overcome all manners of harassment, intimidation and calculated attacks applied by some clubs and officials to ensure referees do their bid at match venues since the league organisers are doing the needful in this regard.

While stating that match reports from Assessors are being used to determine performances of referees for further reconsideration for matches, the NRA President said that the association in conjunction with the federation shall leave nothing unturned at ensuring that anyone found involved in acts not in conformity with the Laws of the Game gets sanctioned adequately.

As Pillars host league leaders, Rivers in Kaduna, a very sound referee from the FCT Council, Abdulmalik Madaki shall be at the centre to control proceedings as the National Treasurer of the NRA, Isa Mohammed of Borno will assess the refereeing team.

In the game a former National Training Officer, NTO of the NRA and South South Zonal Coordinator, Dr Agba G Agba will be on the stands to decisions of the referees as Assessor, a seasoned arbiter and highly experienced Markus Bwashi of the Nigerian Army will lead the refereeing team to Aba where home side hosts visiting Remo Stars.

The North Central derby; Lobi Stars vs Plateau, expected to be an explosive encounter in Markurdi, will witness another new comer to the NPFL from NNL, who is packed with blistering form, Sikiru Adeoye Kosoko from Lagos council United be the arbiter in Markurdi alongside Haruna Musa of Sokoto and Dogari Kazeem of Yobe as Assistant Referee 1 and 2 respectively. They squad has former Jigawa Council council chairman, Rabiu Baita as Assessor.
