NPFL 2019/20: BOBOYE OPTIMISTIC OF A POSITIVE RESULT IN NNEWI

Akwa United Head Coach Kennedy Boboye may unleash all his mid-season signings on FC Ifeanyi Ubah this weekend when both sides clash on Matchday 18 in Nnewi, as he targets his team’s third away win of the current NPFL season.

Three of the six new players; Olisa Ndah, Ifeanyi Eze and Salisu Saidu were in action on Matchday 17 when Akwa United thrashed Heartland FC 3-1 in Uyo and Coach Boboye has included Ikechukwu Nwani, Arinze Nwangwe and UKeme Williams in his 18-man Matchday squad for the crucial game against FC Ifeanyi Ubah.

The Promise Keepers will be aiming to continue their fine run which has produced six victories in their last nine matches. But they will miss the services of prolific striker Akarandut Orok who sustained a minor injury in the game against Heartland last time out.

Speaking with the club’s official website www.Akwaunitedfc.net Coach Boboye expressed optimism that his team is going to Nnewi to play for a positive result.

“After 17 matches, you will agree with me that the season has gone far and every point is very important to us. We have decided to take it one game at a time and our focus is on this weekend’s match against FC Ifeanyi Ubah and our target is to win on Sunday.

“It’s true that Akarandut Orok will not be part of the team on Sunday, he sustained an injury in our last game in Uyo. We will miss him, but who knows, it may be an opportunity for others to prove their worth”.

On the inclusion of all six mid-season signings on the matchday squad, Coach Boboye said, ” I have confidence in my players because they are hardworking and determined to play at any time. We went for players that will add value to this team and we have to give them the chance to contribute to the success of this team. All the players cannot play at the same time but we will continue to give opportunity to everyone in the team”.

Akwa United, 6th on the log with 26 points from 17 games could break into the top three if they win in Nnewi against 10th placed FC Ifeanyi Ubah who lost 1-0 to Katsina United last weekend.

Dependable striker Ndifreke Effiong who has scored 6 goals so far this season will once again lead the Promise Keepers’ attack as he looks to continue his superb form in front of goal in Nnewi.
