“Not Good Enough”: Former Nigerian International Abiodun Obafemi Criticizes NFF’s Communication Regarding Coach Peseiro’s Situation

Abiodun Obafemi, a former Nigerian international, has expressed disappointment over the Nigerian Football Federation’s (NFF) handling of the Jose Peseiro situation, labeling it as poor and lacking in professionalism.

Abiodun Obafemi condemned the absence of communication with the Nigerian public regarding the coach’s future with the national team, asserting that it leaves fans in the dark and breeds uncertainty, Sports247 reports.

“I must say I’m a little bit surprised by the situation, the situation reports regarding the position of the national coach and the reaction from NFF. I was not expecting to hear from coach Peseiro that his contract was no longer renewed,” Obafemi remarked.

Critically, Abiodun Obafemi highlighted the deficiency in the NFF’s communication strategy, emphasizing the need for transparency and clarity in such matters. He lamented the lack of official statements from the NFF regarding Peseiro’s contract status, asserting that it falls short of professional standards and leaves room for speculation among the Nigerian football community.

“The way the NFF disseminates information, it’s not good enough, they can do better. I was expecting them to come out and then let Nigeria know the situation, they should be able to tell us that his contract has expired and the contract will not be renewed. And then, you know, the next step should be stated,” Obafemi criticized.

Abiodun Obafemi called for accountability and clear direction from the NFF, urging them to promptly communicate their plans for the national team’s coaching staff. He emphasized the importance of transparent communication in fostering trust and unity within the Nigerian football ecosystem, advocating for a more structured and professional approach to disseminating information regarding coaching appointments and team management.

“They should let Nigeria know if we’re hiring a foreign coach again, or if we are giving responsibility to a local coach, we need to start doing things the proper way. I mean disseminating information in the proper way,” Obafemi concluded, underscoring the necessity for transparency and accountability in football governance.
