The president of Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC), Engineer Habu Gumel has thrown more light on the upcoming advanced gender-inclusive governance course to be hosted by the body this month in Abuja.
Sports247 reports that Engineer Gumel affirmed that the three-day course will be staged with full backing from International Olympic Committee (IOC), from March 23 to 25 at Package B media centre of Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
He added that the initiative, which is supported by Olympic Solidarity, is targeted at former female athletes and women currently serving on the boards of Nigeria’s various national sports federations.
Gumel declared, “The course is aimed at deepening inclusive leadership, improving governance standards, reinforcing institutional effectiveness across the country’s sports federations and part of efforts to strengthen sports administration in Nigeria.
“Strengthening the capacity of women in leadership positions is key to driving reform, improving compliance with international standards, and ensuring long-term growth within Nigeria’s sports system.”
A press statement signed by the committee’s media officer, Tony Nezianya expatiated, “President of the NOC, Habu Ahmed Gumel will officially declare the programme open.
“Participants will receive training in governance reform and strategic planning, financial oversight, ethical leadership and safeguarding, as well as policy implementation and institutional management.
“Beyond classroom learning, the programme will also provide mentorship opportunities and encourage collaboration among participants, helping to build a strong network of women leaders capable of influencing reforms within their respective federations.”
Sports247 gathered further that the course will be delivered under the International Olympic Committee’s global education framework and is built around the IOC Sports Administration Course manual.
