The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), also hit with heavy sanctions as several players and officials, following a series of incidents that marred the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 Final.

After reviewing reports from match officials and other relevant evidence, the Board concluded that multiple actions during the final breached the CAF Disciplinary Code, particularly the principles of fair play, loyalty, and integrity.

Senegal were the hardest hit by the rulings. Head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw was suspended for five official CAF matches after being found guilty of unsporting conduct that brought the game into disrepute.

The CAF Disciplinary Board also imposed a USD 100,000 fine on the Senegal coach.

On the field, Senegalese players Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each handed two-match suspensions for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

In addition, the FSF was fined USD 300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, and a further USD 300,000 for the unsporting behaviour of its players and technical staff during the final.

An extra USD 15,000 fine was also imposed after five Senegal players picked up cautions in the match.

Morocco were not spared either. Star defender Achraf Hakimi received a two-match CAF suspension, although one of the matches has been suspended for a one-year probationary period, following his unsporting behaviour.

Midfielder Ismaël Saibari was given a three-match suspension and fined USD 100,000 for his conduct during the final.

The Moroccan FA was also sanctioned for off-field incidents. The FRMF was fined USD 200,000 over the inappropriate behaviour of stadium ball boys, while an additional USD 100,000 fine was imposed after Moroccan players and technical staff invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the referee’s work, an action CAF ruled was in clear violation of Articles 82 and 83 of its Disciplinary Code.

The use of lasers by Moroccan supporters during the match also attracted a USD 15,000 fine.

CAF also ruled on a protest lodged by the FRMF, which alleged that the FSF breached Articles 82 and 84 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations during the final.

After deliberation, the Disciplinary Board rejected the protest, finding no grounds to uphold the claims.

In closing, CAF reiterated its firm stance on discipline, stressing that respect for officials, adherence to regulations, and the preservation of the integrity of the game remain non-negotiable across all CAF competitions.
