“No Excuses — Garba Lawal Demands Total Focus as Super Eagles Face Do-or-Die Clash Against Benin”

Former Super Eagles midfielder Garba Lawal has warned that Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic is a must-win encounter that could determine the nation’s footballing destiny.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s crucial match in Uyo, Lawal said there is no room for error or complacency, stressing that every player must understand the magnitude of the task before them.

“This is not just another game — this is a battle for pride, for the jersey, and for our World Cup dream,” Lawal declared. “Every player on that pitch must play like it’s the last game of their career.”

Lawal, a veteran of multiple major tournaments for Nigeria, emphasized that the team’s concentration and composure will be key to overcoming Benin’s compact and physical setup. “The technical crew must prepare the players mentally. This is about discipline, teamwork, and tactical awareness. You don’t win big games by emotion alone — you win them by intelligence.”

He also called on the senior players in the squad to lead by example, reminding them that millions of Nigerians will be watching and hoping. “This team must show leadership. When things get tough, that’s when true professionals rise. The younger players will follow their lead.”

The former international added that while Nigeria’s qualification fate partly depends on other results, the immediate focus must be on securing three points at all costs. “We cannot control what happens elsewhere,” he said. “But we can control how we play. Win your game — that’s what matters.”

With pressure mounting on the Super Eagles to deliver, Lawal’s words serve as both a warning and a call to arms for a team desperate to reignite national pride.
