Chief executive officer of the lower division Nigerian National League (NNL), Emmanuel Attah, has brushed aside complaints that Warri Wolves of Delta State have been specially favoured to win this year’s Super-8 competition among the country’s second-tier clubs.
Sports247 gathered that, with the NNL’s play-off competition to determine four promotion slots for next season in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) set to run from July 5-8 in Asaba, Delta State, many observers believe Warri Wolves are already favourites to clinch a spot with home advantage.

However, Attah fired back by disclosing that the choice of venue for this year’s NNL Super-8 had already been done since the beginning of the season, before which open invitations were thrown to all states to tender hosting bids, but only Delta responded.
Attah added, “When the season commenced, we tried to secure a site as much as possible and early enough. We always work ahead for the Super-8.
“That’s what we did this season as well. Only Delta State came forward and indicated interest in hosting the Super-8, and they did that very early.”
Attah stressed that there was no way anyone would have predicted correctly that Warri Wolves would qualify for the Super-8, and he then stressed that the choice of venue had already been settled long before the season gathered steam.
“We already said before the season began that whichever state gave us the go-ahead, that is where we would go to host the competition.
“Delta State showed interest, while all others didn’t show it. What else can we do? This was also something that we mentioned during the last Congress. So, I don’t think anybody should complain,” Attah insisted.
It is now left to be seen how Warri Wolves will fare against the other seven contenders for only four spots in the NPFL, as they prepare to ‘host’ Osun United, Kun Khalifa, Crown FC, Wikki Tourists, Doma FC, Yobe Desserts Stras and Barau FC.
