Osun United took a significant step toward promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after edging Warri Wolves 1-0 in a hard-fought encounter at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, in the opening day of the 2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs.
Odeyemi Ebenezer netted the decisive goal just before halftime, showcasing composure and technique after a fine control at the edge of the box to fire past the Warri Wolves goalkeeper.

The first half saw both sides create decent chances, with Warri Wolves threatening on two occasions but failing to find the back of the net.
Osun United, however, made their opportunity count through Odeyemi’s clinical finish, taking a slender lead into the break.
Warri Wolves came out firing in the second half, applying sustained pressure in search of an equalizer.
However, Osun United’s backline, led by Gabriel Lekan and Afolabi Olatubosun, stood firm. One of the game’s turning points came at the hour mark when fullback Taiwo Adeboye made a heroic goal-line clearance, keeping Osun United ahead after goalkeeper Ayo Ojo was beaten during a swift Wolves counterattack.
Despite the relentless attacks from Warri Wolves, the Osun United defense held its shape. Substitute Sunday Oloche, introduced for Rasheed Adam, had a late chance to double the lead but was denied by the Warri Wolves shot-stopper.

Goalkeeper Ayo Ojo also played a key role in preserving the clean sheet, making several crucial saves as the match wore on.
Speaking after the match, Osun United head coach Seye Ajayi praised his players for their fighting spirit and resilience.
“I’m proud of the grit and discipline shown by the boys today. It’s a good start, but we must remain focused and hungry for more victories. The job is far from over,” Ajayi stated.
Osun United will now shift their attention to their next group match against Crown FC, who lost 1-0 to Kun Khalifat earlier in the day.
The win hands ‘The Gladiators’ a vital three points in the race for NPFL promotion, as the NNL Super 8 tournament continues to intensify.
