NNL Expels Gateway and Malumfashi Football Clubs Due to Non-Compliance

Financial Constraints and Licensing Issues Lead to Statutory Withdrawal from the League

Gateway Football Club of Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Malumfashi Football Club of Katsina State have been expelled from the Nigeria National League (NNL) for the 2023/2024 season.

This action is due to their failure to adhere to the league’s terms and conditions. The NNL board made the decision after exhausting various waivers granted to the clubs.

Ayo Abdulrahaman, the Chief Operating Officer of NNL, stated that both clubs were withdrawn from the league for financial inability and non-compliance with club licensing conditions.

Despite multiple circulars, phone calls, and reminders, the clubs fell short of meeting the NNL rule book requirements even after the league had commenced.

Abdulrahaman emphasized that the decision is in accordance with relevant portions of the NNL rule book (articles 2.1, 3.11, and 3.5).
