NNL 2021/22 : Gateway United Take Vital Point In Osun Utd Stalemate

Gateway United kept their topflight football hopes alive after a goalless draw against Osun United in 2021/2022 NNL matchday 17 fixture at OAU stadium, Ife.

An imperious performance could only earn Toyin Ayinla’s charges a draw, reducing Insurance advantage to a point ahead of their away game to Ekiti United tomorrow, Sunday 19th June, 2022.

A quiet but energetic first half it was for both sides with the exception of Iwundu Chidozie’s attempt in the 37th which saw his glancing header narrowly wide.

The visitors started the second half on a front foot, but it was the home side that first threatened as Ibukun Araromi proved his alertness to save Abubakar Sodiq’s pinpoint header.

What could have been the game changer for Gateway United came in the 89th minute when Haruna Salifu warded off tackles to set himself clear on goal but could only place the ball lowly to the arms of the onrushing Osun United goalkeeper Sunday Odoani.

That was all as both sides settled for a barren draw.

Gateway United will take the battle to Benin City against Insurance in a midweek clash on Wednesday 22nd June, 2022.
