NNL 2021/22 : Bendel Insurance FC Forced To 1-1 Stalemate By Ikorodu City FC

Bendel Insurance FC of Benin were today forced to a 1-1 draw by new entrants Ikorodu City FC in the week three game of the 2021/2022 Nigeria National League (NNL)played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

The Group B1 leaders Bendel Insurance FC took the lead eleven minutes into the game when Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi was gifted with a deflected ball near Ikorodu City’s area and the fine dribler did not waste time as he calmly placed the ball into the net behind Amah John.

The host afterward, rose up to the occasion as they put all their energy in search of goal but the Insurance defence led by Tanimu Benjamin and Sunday Anyanwu were alive to their responsibility in neutralising the Ikorodu invasion till the referee signalled for half time break.

As the second half began, both sides continued with the aggression but the home team became more ambitious and their efforts paid off in the 77th minutes when a long throw from Austin was headed by Johnson Peter
into the right corner of Insurance net. Goalkeeper kolawole Oladipo would have been voted man of the match but for the heartbreaking goal.

The Benin Arsenal still maintain their unbeaten run after pulling two away draws, the first being a goalless draw with another Lagos based Club Vandrezzer FC on the opening day of the season and a 2-0 win over J.Atete FC in Benin. Insurance still lead the group with five points.

Insurance will be flying back to Benin with away point to prepare for their next opponents Ibom Youth FC,who are scheduled to meet in Benin City next weekend.
