NNL 2021/22 : Bendel Insurance Extend Group B1 Lead After 2-1 Victory At Ibom

Bendel Insurance FC of Benin, weekend grabbed their third away victory in the 2022 Nigeria National League (NNL)after beating Ibom Youth FC 2-1 to extend their lead in the southern conference Group B1 with 37 points from 17 games.

The Benin Arsenal started the game with all determinations as they attacked the hosts whose defenders were caught unguarded in the sixth minute of the game when Adodo Stephens was left unmarked and headed home Dede Muoghara’s fine free kick from the left flank to put the visitors in front.

Insurance had it tough coping with the bumpy field at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium which badly affected their free flow and pattern of play but managed to maintain the early goal lead until the 65th minute when Chibuzo nodded in a curled pass from their right back Victor Effiong to restore parity.

With time drifting away,Insurance manager Monday Odigie quickly effected some changes, introducing Taiwo Oripelaye and attacking horse power Imade Osarenkhoe who immediately added the desired bite and took the battle to the gate of their hosts.

The pressure mounted by the visitors paid off in the 80th minute as Adodo Stephen’s last gasps low drive effort after dribbling past two back line men crossed the line leaving the Ibom Youth goalkeeper helpless, giving Insurance a hard earned away victory.

Energetic Stephen Adodo’s brace gave Insurance their third away victory at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, Akwa Ibom state.

The Benin Arsenal will still continue to enjoy the group B1 leadership irrespective of the outcome of Gateway Utd, Ikorodu City FC clash on Sunday. Gateway Utd are the closest rivals in the group with 33 points.

Insurance FC will be honouring week 18 game at Ekiti Utd on Wednesday,June 29 with confidence and winning mentality . The Ekiti game was put on hold last week Saturday due to Ekiti state gubernatorial election.
