Nnadozie Hails Precious Dede as Role Model in Heartfelt Tribute

Super Falcons’ goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has paid glowing tribute to former legendary Nigerian goalkeeper Precious Dede, saying the veteran remains a role model whose influence continues to shape the next generation. In a message shared recently, Nnadozie recalled watching Dede’s heroic saves, grit, and fighting spirit from a young age — qualities she says made a lasting impression on her own journey.

Nnadozie went further to reveal that during her Under-20 days she benefited directly from Dede’s mentorship. “She didn’t just inspire from afar,” Nnadozie said. “When I was coming up, Precious was more than a star I admired — she coached, encouraged, and even gave gloves to keep our confidence high.”

For Nnadozie, Dede’s significance transcends mere statistics or trophies. She praised Dede’s humility and character — “how she carried herself off the pitch, how she lifted others, especially younger keepers, even when her own acclaim was rising.” According to her, these traits are what make the legacy enduring.

Speaking of her own development, Nnadozie said seeing someone like Dede being courageous in difficult moments taught her to stand firm under pressure. “We all watch matches, but witnessing someone who is both strong and gracious, who bounces back from mistakes — that stayed with me,” she reflected.

Nnadozie also acknowledged that role models like Dede are essential not only for skill development but for psychological growth in sport. “Having someone who shows you what is possible makes the difference between dreaming and doing,” she said.

As Nnadozie continues her career at both club and national level ‒ recently moving to Brighton & Hove Albion and as mainstay for Nigeria ‒ she said she hopes to carry forward Dede’s legacy: “To inspire, to fight for every ball, to stay humble no matter the accolades.”
