In a decisive move to uphold the integrity of the game, the Nationwide League One (NLO) has announced the cancellation of two league matches played on May 27, 2025 at the Maracana B Center in Lagos, Sports247 reports
Ths NLO cited evidence of match manipulation involving the four Lagos-based clubs in a release made availble to the press
According to reports submitted by match officials, the games between ACT Sports Di Oyibo FC vs Seamoriow FC (2-9) and BISON FC vs Franceex FC (0-9) were manipulated in a desperate attempt by the clubs to outscore each other on goal difference and gain undue advantage.
The NLO Secretariat described the conduct of the clubs, players, and officials as “gross misconduct and fraud,” stating that the actions brought the sport into disrepute.
Investigations revealed that BISON FC, which had previously conceded only seven goals across eight matches, inexplicably let in nine goals in a single game.
Similarly, Seamoriow FC, whose average goal tally per match was two, suddenly recorded nine goals.
Convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the matches were compromised, the NLO invoked Article 4.17 of its regulations to impose strict sanctions:
The two matches have been officially annulled.
All matches played by ACT Sports Di Oyibo FC, Seamoriow FC, BISON FC, and Franceex FC during the 2025 season are hereby voided.
Each of the four clubs has been fined ₦500,000, payable to the NLO.
All players and officials involved in the matches are banned for two years.
The NLO added that the names and photographs of the sanctioned individuals will be made public in due course.
Consequently, Okaka FC now heads to the Play Offs as the winner of the zone after the final league was revised .
