Nigerian referee Yemisi Eunice Akintoye has been selected among the 18 officials appointed by CAF to officiate at the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.
Akintoye, a member of the Lagos State Football Referees Council, earned her place following her successful performance at the WAFCON preparatory course held earlier this month in Cairo, Egypt.
The course involved extensive technical assessments, physical fitness tests, and decision-making evaluations under match-like conditions.
Her selection marks a significant milestone in her refereeing career and places her alongside top referees from across the continent, including globally recognized figures like Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga.
Akintoye, who was badged as a FIFA referee in 2021, has previously officiated in high-profile tournaments including the WAFU Women’s Champions League and the CAF Women’s Champions League.
WAFCON 2025 will gather the best women’s national teams in Africa, and Akintoye’s appointment highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in the development of elite female referees on the continent.
