Nigeria’s Women’s Cricket Team To Battle For Honor In Kwibuka International Tourney

Nigeria’s Women’s Cricket Team, also known as  ‘ Female Yellow Greens ‘ will battle Uganda, Kenya, and Botswana, and host Rwanda in the Kwibuka International Women’s tournament scheduled to take place today Saturday 10th to Sunday 18th of June 2023.

A list of 14 Nigeria’s Women’s Cricket Team to represent Nigeria departed for the tournament yesterday Friday, June 9, 2023.

18 players were invited to camp and after a regime of batting, bowling, and fielding drills coupled with a series of friendly matches, a final 14 squad list proceed to the tournament in Kigali.

Nigeria will be making a 4th appearance in the Cricket tournament and will look to continue their fine form from being crowned Champions of the NCF Women’s International tournament earlier this year in Lagos.

On the list of players in the tournament is longest serving and most experienced female Cricket player Blessing Etim who will lead the team as captain to be supported by Favour Esiegbe as Vice Captain.

Other notable names on the list are Salome Sunday, Lucky Piety, Rachael Samson, and Agatha Obulor.

Oseyande Omokhiobhio and Omonye Asika return to the team after missing the Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s International tournament in March, while bowling sensation Lillian Ude will not be on the flight to Kigali due to Academic engagements.

In a related development, the Nigeria Cricket Federation has appointed Sarah Bhakita Wetoto former Kenya International and Vice-Captain as a batting consultant and mentor to the female National teams.
