Nigeria’s Umar Ayoola concluded a memorable debut campaign at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships with a silver medal after falling to Egypt’s Sameh Asser in the final of the U-15 Boys’ Singles event in Accra, Ghana.

Sports247 reports that the talented Nigerian was defeated 3-1 by the outstanding Egyptian youngster, who capped an impressive tournament by claiming the continental crown and further establishing himself as one of Africa’s brightest emerging table tennis stars.
Ayoola entered the final in fine form after an excellent run through the competition. The Nigerian overcame Egypt’s Ahmed Elsabbagh 3-1 in the quarter-finals before producing a commanding 3-0 victory over compatriot Samson Joshua in the semi-finals to book his place in the championship match.
However, Sameh Asser proved too strong in the title decider. The Egyptian maintained his composure throughout the contest, controlling the rallies with precision and consistency to earn a deserved 3-1 victory and lift the U-15 Boys’ Singles trophy.
Despite the defeat, Ayoola’s performance in Accra marks a significant milestone in his young career. Competing in his first-ever singles event at the ITTF Africa Youth Championships, the Nigerian displayed remarkable maturity, resilience and technical quality to reach the final against some of the continent’s best young players.
