In the aftermath of an impressive Women’s World Cup campaign, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially announced the departure of Randy Waldrum as the head coach of the national women’s team, the Super Falcons.

The NFF’s decision to seek new leadership comes amidst speculation about the American coach’s future with the team, as his contract concluded with the conclusion of the global tournament held in Australia and New Zealand.
The NFF’s Technical Committee has been tasked with the responsibility of identifying and appointing a successor for Waldrum. This development follows a period of strained relations between the coach and the federation in the lead-up to the Women’s World Cup.
Notably, the impressive showing of the team on the international stage helped mask the underlying discord between the two parties. However, the NFF’s decision not to extend Waldrum’s contract was further solidified by the conclusion of the tournament.

During the inauguration of the newly-formed NFF Technical Committee in Abuja, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the president of the federation, underlined the urgency of preparing for upcoming competitions, including the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers and the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Gusau emphasized the need for a proactive approach in selecting technical staff for various national teams, with crucial qualification matches on the horizon for both male and female squads.
Gusau assured the committee of the NFF’s full support, whether through physical meetings or virtual conferences. The newly appointed Chairman of the Technical Committee, Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, expressed commitment to the vision of the Gusau-led administration.
Inuwa vowed to approach their duties with responsibility, energy, and a proactive mindset, ensuring the holistic development of football in Nigeria across all levels.
