Nigeria’s Sports Minister Urges Super Eagles to Soar Higher Following Performance Against Lesotho

In the aftermath of the Super Eagles’ recent draw against Lesotho in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has called for improvements and rallied Nigerians to support the national team.

Expressing his concern over the team’s performance, Senator Enoh emphasized the significance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, especially after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.

He stressed that qualification is non-negotiable and urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to address the observed lapses from the Lesotho match.

“The Government and football-loving people of Nigeria take the qualification for the 2026 World Cup very seriously and want the Super Eagles to qualify,” Senator Enoh stated.

“Having missed out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup is not negotiable.”

While acknowledging the challenges faced by fans in watching the match due to broadcasting limitations, Senator Enoh assured that efforts are underway to resolve the situation.

He urged the NFF to register Nigeria’s dissatisfaction with the appropriate authorities, emphasizing that a repeat should be avoided.

“We understand that the qualifiers are FIFA-organized, and so the television broadcasting rights are in the World Football Governing Body’s purview,” he explained.

“It is not good enough that many Nigerians could not watch their National team play in their country.

A repeat of the same should be avoided, and NFF will be expected to register Nigeria’s displeasure with the appropriate authority in FIFA.”

Despite the challenges, Senator Enoh rallied support for the Super Eagles, encouraging them to exhibit sharper gameplay in the upcoming matches.

He concluded by emphasizing that Nigerians are united in their support for the team’s success and advancement in the qualifiers.
