Nigeria’s Football Will Never Forget Henry Nwosu’s Contributions – Mohammed Sanusi

Sports247 reports that Sanusi made the solemn declaration Saturday afternoon, after he was told about the death of Nwosu, which sad event took place earlier same day at Lagos State University Teaching Hodpital (LASUTH), Ikeja

News of the iconic former midfielder’s passing was broken by his senior colleague, Chief Segun Odegbami, a key member of Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad on home soil, in which Nwosu was the team’s youngest player.

Odegbami disclosed in a tribute to the mercurial legend, who later became a reputed coach at youth and senior national team levels as well as in the domestic league, that Nwosu had been admitted to the intensive care unit of LASUTECH on Wednesday but gave up the ghost around 4am on Saturday.

On being informed about the sad development, Sanusi noted that it comes so soon after the death of two-time national team head coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, who Nwosu worked with as an assistant at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan.

“This is another very sad news, even as we are still mourning the demise of Chief Onigbinde. Nigeria football can never forget the enormous contributions of Henry Nwosu both as a player and a coach.

“We pray that God will grant him eternal rest and also grant the family he has left behind, as well as friends and relations, the fortitude to bear the loss,” Sanusi submitted.
