Nigeria’s Comfort Erhabor opens up on her Black hero and journey to football confidence

Former Nigeria U17 women’s team goalkeeper invitee, Comfort Erhabor, who currently plays for Portsmouth Women in the English Women’s Championship, has spoken candidly about the people who have inspired her both on and off the pitch.

The talented shot-stopper, who grew up in a small village in the Netherlands, revealed that she wasn’t exposed to much diversity during her early years.

However, as she developed in her football career, she found motivation in Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, whose success story continues to inspire many young African goalkeepers around the world.

“Seeing what Nnadozie has achieved has shown me that regardless of where you come from, hard work and belief can take you anywhere,” Comfort said.

She also paid tribute to her mother, describing her as her biggest hero and lifelong source of strength.

“My mum has always supported my football dream and taught me to be confident in who I am,” she shared. “She’s taught me that being a Black woman of faith means walking proudly and knowing the impact I can make.”

Earlier this season, Erhabor made a switch from Brighton Women to Portsmouth, coincidentally around the same time that Chiamaka Nnadozie joined Brighton — a move that, in many ways, reflects how the young goalkeeper continues to follow in the footsteps of her idol.

With her growing experience, technical ability, and maturity, Comfort Erhabor is widely seen as a player with the potential to represent Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the near future.

Her dedication, composure, and leadership qualities between the posts mark her out as one of the most promising Nigerian goalkeepers currently developing in Europe — and a call-up to the senior national team may not be far away.
