Nigeria’s athletics head coach, Solomon Aliyu, has predicted that the country’s young sprinters will soon rule all events of their category in major African and global competitions.
Sports247 reports that Aliyu made the prophecy based on his observations during the recent African U18/U20 Athletics Championship in Abeokuta, where Nigeria’s athletes emerged with stunning results in the sprints.

A large number of young Nigerian athletes pulled off huge marks in the 100m, 200m, 400m and various relay events, all of which Aliyu described as signs of better years to come for the country on the international stage.
Aliyu cited a specific example in the girls’ 100m, where Nigeria’s athletes clinched all the medals available, which the amiable track and field tactician noted was an indication of the country’s impending dominance in all sprint events.
He reasoned further, “In the 100m girls’ sprints, for instance, we dominated in all the categories. It was first, second, third for Nigeria on the podium.
“The same also for the long sprints, short distance races and 400m. We are dominating in almost all the sprints.”
He concluded by pointing out that the results seen at the recent competition, which took place at MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, reflect what he believes is the future strength of Nigeria at the continental and world levels.
“I believe that’s the area in which we are going to have the next generation of achievers, not just for Nigeria but all of Africa.
“We will also see them attempt to make very good marks on the global stage,” Aliyu projected.
