Nigeria’s Athletics Delegation Eyes Four Tickets At Relays Championship In Botswana

Nigeria’s arhletics delegation will this weekend run for four tickets to the World Relays Championship when they take to the tracks in Gaborone, Botswana for two male events and another two of mixed quartets.

Sports247 gathered that the competition is tagged Lefika International Relays, in which Nigeria will compete for the men’s 4x100m and 4x400m, as well as the mixed 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

The four teams will be running to join Nigeria’s women 4x100m and 4x400m teams that have both already sealed spots at this year’s World Relay Championship also slated for Gaborone in May.

A press statement by chairman of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) media committee, Maxwell Kumoye disclosed that the contingent, which has a blend of youth and experience, prepared for six weeks in Asaba, Delta State.

Among the athletes Nigeria will bank on for qualification tickets in Gaborone are Enaruna Anita Itohan, Badmus Gafari Atanda, Ezeakor Chidera, Emmanuel James Taiwo, Ojeli Ifeanyi Emmanuel and George Patience Okon.

Also named in the contingent that will arrive at the venue on Thursday are Nathaniel Samson, Adeyemi Sikiru Adewale, Sampson Victor Ime, Godwin Tejiri, Andrew Jecinter Lawrence, Chukwuka Obi Jennifer and Omokwe Maria Thompson.

Kumoye enthused, “With a balanced squad and strong administrative backing from the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Team Nigeria will be aiming to make a significant impact in Gaborone.”
