Nigerian Young Athlete Targets Olympic Games Gold

Ogun State Victors Club’s 100 and 200 meters sprinter, Adebayo Olalekan has expressed his ambitions on winning an Olympic Gold medal in the future.

The Amazing runner in an exclusive interview with Sports247 who admitted that it isn’t how long an athlete has been into athletics, but the high level of consistency the athlete attains, stated that he plans to win an Olympic Gold medal for Nigeria in the future years. He also spoke about what motivated him into becoming an athlete, as well as how he works towards becoming a better athlete.

*Tell us when you ventured into Athletics?

I started about last year (2020) April, I started with 12.6. It’s not about the amount of time you have been into Athletics or have been training, but it’s about the level of consistency. An athlete may have been into athletics for a long time but maybe on and off, he will still be where he is. Consistency is always the key in athletics.

*We know that you are aiming towards beating 9 seconds, what is the vision and motivation behind this?

I am not running to beat 9 seconds or 8 seconds or any time, I am running to become a better athlete. If you run for 9 seconds, which is the current record presently, you will think you are on the top game, until you better it. When you improve more on yourself, you will get to break more records, so that’s just it.

*Who has been your Motivational Factor so far?

It has been my coach. My Coach has been very supportive of me. He is my motivation all through my career.

*Are you aiming to participate in any tournament this year?

Yes. All comers tournament is coming soon, and I intend to run a 10 flat at this new season to further improve my game.

*Are you representing any state at the National Sports Festival?

No, I didn’t make it at the trials, but that didn’t make me sad or feel remorseful in my game. If you are doing what you ought to do, then the time wouldn’t be a problem. You don’t run for time, you run for techniques. When you know the techniques of the game, your time will definitely come, that’s just it.

*Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

By then, I want to be a professional and be on top of my game. I want to be at the Olympics as well by then and win a Gold medal in Athletics for my country. I know I still have a lot of things to learn and improve upon, but with God and the help of my Coach, I believe I will get there.

Adebayo Olalekan is a 20-year-Old Athlete who plies his trade with the Victors club in Ogun State.
