Nigerian Teen Star Seun Ogunsakin Steps Up Roland Garros Preparations With ITF Grand Slam Players Development Tour

Nigeria’s rising tennis sensation Seun Ogunsakin has intensified preparations for his maiden appearance at the prestigious Roland Garros after joining the ITF Grand Slam Player Development Programme tour in Europe.

Ogunsakin is currently competing at the J200 Prato tournament in Italy, where he entered as the number three seed, as part of a carefully planned buildup to the clay-court Grand Slam scheduled for May 31 to June 6 in Paris.

The Nigerian youngster is travelling with the International Tennis Federation’s Grand Slam Player Development Programme team, an initiative designed to support talented junior players from emerging tennis nations with elite exposure and competitive opportunities.

The European tour is expected to provide the teenager with vital match practice on clay courts ahead of his highly anticipated Junior Roland Garros debut.

Ogunsakin has enjoyed a remarkable rise in the junior rankings this season.

He is currently ranked 67th in the world in the ITF junior rankings, after reaching a career-high ranking of 63 in April.

His recent success includes winning the ITF J200 Africa Regional Championship in Cairo, Egypt, where he defeated Botswana’s Ntugamili Raguin in the final to secure one of the biggest titles of his young career.

The Nigerian prospect narrowly missed out on qualification for the Junior Australian Open earlier this year, but his strong performances across the African and international circuits have now secured him direct entry into the junior Grand Slam events during the European clay season.

Ogunsakin’s rapid development has continued to attract attention within Nigerian tennis circles, with many viewing him as one of the country’s brightest homegrown prospects in recent years.
