The Nigerian sports community has been plunged into mourning following the passing of the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju. He died this morning, October 2, 2025, at Nizamiya Hospital in Abuja.
In a heartfelt tribute, the President of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation (NAWF), Engr. Samuel Jackson, described Akindoju’s death as a devastating loss to the entire Nigerian sporting family.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for us all. Engr. Akindoju was not just a leader in tennis, he was a true sportsman whose vision and passion for grassroots development inspired many of us across federations,” Jackson said.
He noted that Akindoju’s passing leaves a painful void, emphasizing that his humility, kindness, and dedication to Nigerian sports will be remembered for generations to come.
“He carried himself with so much grace and humility. His passing is a reminder of how fragile life is, but also of how powerful a legacy of service can be. Nigerian sports has lost a brother, a colleague, and a friend,” he added.
On behalf of the armwrestling family, Engr. Jackson extended his condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them of their prayers and support in this time of grief.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. On behalf of the entire Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, we stand with them and the entire tennis community in this dark hour. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, a gentleman administrator and visionary leader, will be remembered for his selfless dedication to tennis and his dream of producing the next generation of world-class Nigerian tennis players.
