Nigerian Players Abroad: From Remo Stars To Hong Kong Premier League Club…The Untold Story Of Robert Odu

Hope and hard work definitely spring eternal. From nursing childhood dreams of becoming a professional footballer to putting pen to paper with a Premier League club based in Hong Kong, Robert Odu’s journey from the City of Lagos to the Asian continent is truly motivational.

The 21-year-old joined Hong Kong Premier League club Happy Valley from Nigerian National League club Remo Stars for an undisclosed fee after observing the compulsory 14-day quarantine on his arrival from Nigeria to Hong Kong. He was unveiled on Wednesday by his new team.

A graduate of Law from the University of Lagos, he was the captain of his class football team. While schooling, he juggled studies with playing football for Unilag Marines and he found the back of the net twice in the HIFL against FUTA Tigers and EKSU Mountaineers.

Be that as it may, Unilag Marines bowed out of the competition at the group stage, Robert’s clinical finishing caught the attention of the spectators. After his adventure with Unilag Marines, he began to don the shirt of Remo Stars where he was on a two-year loan.

Robert who idolizes five times Ballon d’ or winner Cristiano Ronaldo shared the news of his new sojourn on his Twitter page. “Glad to announce that I’ve just signed a deal with Happy Valley FA in the Hong Kong Premier League,” Robert tweeted.
“Looking forward to continue working hard and helping my new team achieve our set goals for the season in a new environment. The journey continues.”

Renowned for his strength, prolific goalscoring, and sheer desire to win games, the striker is expected to be a constant menace to opposition defenses in the Hong Kong Premier League.

His side under the management of Pau Ka Yiu finished in the sixth position in the 2019-2020 Hong Kong top-flight season but still has a chance to clinch the Sapling Cup trophy.

However, he could lead the frontline and make his debut against Resource Capital on Sunday as training has begun.
