Danish club Aarhus Fremad, majority-owned by Nigerian tech entrepreneur Shola Akinlade, has secured the Danish second division title after finishing top of the table with 60 points — one ahead of nearest rivals Middelfart. A 1-1 draw against Amager Fremad on the final day of the season confirmed their championship status and promotion.
The result crowned a stellar campaign for Aarhus Fremad in the NordicBet Liga, earning them a place in the Betinia Liga — Denmark’s second-tier league, just below the prestigious Superliga.

Akinlade, who also owns Sporting Lagos FC in Nigeria, acquired a 55 percent stake in Aarhus Fremad in 2023.
His investment marked a significant milestone in Nigerian involvement in the international football business, blending tech, sports, and global vision.
Aarhus Fremad’s success is especially sweet given the disappointment of last season when they narrowly missed out on promotion. The club had finished second in the regular campaign but failed to make it through the playoffs — finishing just three points shy of the top two teams, IF Kolding and B93, both of which operated with full-time professionals.
Their campaign ended in heartbreak with a 2-1 home defeat to FC Roskilde on the final match day, leaving players and fans devastated.
This season, however, the team responded with resilience and determination. They sealed promotion on May 31 with a goalless draw against Middelfart and clinched the title two weeks later with 60 points from 26 matches — a consistent display of quality and focus.
Aarhus Fremad’s rise under Shola Akinlade’s stewardship is viewed as a model of international collaboration and strategic football investment. Akinlade’s dual ownership of Fremad and Sporting Lagos symbolizes a growing connection between Nigerian grassroots football and European development systems.
The club’s promotion opens doors for greater opportunities — both competitively and commercially — and signals a bright future under Nigerian influence in Danish football.
Fremad will now prepare for life in the Betinia Liga, where tougher competition awaits, but so does the chance to climb further toward Denmark’s top football tier
