Nigerian Footballers and thier Trophies in Europe in 2021/2022

It has been a roller coaster for Nigerian footballers abroad this season. Though some saw relegation while others shone like a bright star for their club sides.

It is also a great thing of joy the our female players too came to the party. Example of such is Asisat Oshoala. As the brightest female footballer from the continent of Africa now, Asisat Oshoala won the Spanish Primera Division and Supercopa de España with Barcelona Femeni in this season.

The Super Falcons star became the first Nigerian to end top scorer last week. Asisat Oshoala could have led the attack of Barcelona Femeni to another Champions League triumph but no thanks to the ladies from Lyon that beat the spanish side in the women’s champions league final.

Moses Simon is another player whose star shone in the just concluded season. He won the Coupe de France with Nantes. Though not able to make it to any of the tiers of european football next season but they could manage to finish 9th on the league table in France.

It was a trio for Nigeria in Rangers. Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey won the Scottish Cup with Rangers FC. Despite losing out on the UEFA Europa League trophy, the quality performance of these great players were not unnoticed in Rangers’ campaign this season.

Anthony Nwakaeme won the Turkish Super Lig with Trabzonspor. Trabzonspor were crowned Turkish league champions for the first time in 38 years on Saturday, sparking huge celebrations amongst the thousands of home fans inside and outside the stadium. They clinched the title with a 2-2 draw against Antalyaspor, leaving them nine points clear of second-placed Fenerbahce with three rounds of games left until the end of the season. Another Nigerian achiever this season is Zaidu Sanusi. He won the Portuguese League and Taca de Portugal with FC Porto. The left full back had been an integral part of the Portuguese club this season as well.

Others who did well with thier clubs to get a hand on at least a trophy are, Akinkunmi Amoo who won the Danish Superliga with Copenhagen. Bamidele Yusuf also won the Slovakian Cup with Spartak Trnava. Christy Ucheibe won the Portuguese Campeonato Nacional Feminino with Benfica.
