NIGERIA WRESTLING FEDERATION SET FOR 2020, GOT $60,000 GRANT FROM UNITED WORLD WRESTLING, WON 33 MEDALS IN 2019

The Board of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation met on 18th December 2019 at the Conference hall, Dynamite Training Centre P.D.P Road, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State to discuss salient issues regarding the Federation.

(i) The meeting had 11 (Eleven) members present, comprising of the President, Hon. Daniel Igali, The Technical Director, Technical Representative, Athletes Representative, Secretary-General and 6 (Six) other members;
(ii) Expressed satisfaction with the Federation performances in the year 2019 by winning a total of 33 (Thirty-Three) medals ( 16 Gold, 8 Silver, 9 Bronze) at Continental and international events;
(iii) Commended the President for his commitment and the board for the cordial and harmonious working relationship;
(iv) Adopted the NWF Programme of activities for the year 2020 as amended;
(v) Expressed the need for a comprehensive database of all the Federation’s National athletes for ease of reference;
(vi) Approved that interested referees could attend the upcoming international upgrading course to be held in Algiers, Algeria;
(vii) Agreed that Blessing Onyebuchi should move to Yenagoa, to train under capable hands in preparation for the upcoming Olympic qualifiers;
(viii) Agreed that strict measures should be taken to fish out those unscrupulous elements impersonating the Federation to secure entry visa from countries of the World;
(ix) Mandated the technical commission of the Federation to handle referee issues with better diligence for optimal efficiency;
(x) Expressed dismay over the flagrant violation of Anti-doping rules by athletes and agreed to impose strict liability particularly on Coaches;
(xi) noted that Halogen Security had adopted Adekuoroye Odunayo Folasade of 57kg for sponsorship;
(xii) agreed to organise Hon. Daniel Igali Junior and Cadet National Championships in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State and Southern Ijaw LGA National Wrestling Championships both in 2020;
(xiii) Approved that henceforth, no coach would play dual roles as referee-cum-coach. One line system should be adopted and maintained;
(xiv) noted that Anambra State Wrestling Association organised Championships without the consent of the Federation and agreed to take measures to stop such bad habit;
(xv) Constituted a Committee of 6 (Six) members to fashion out modalities on how the Federation would organise University Championships and the subsequent inclusion of the sport in NUGA. The members are:

4. Philip Momoh Member
5. Daniel Amas Member
6. Mrs (Dr.) Toyyibat Bello Member
(xvi) Noted that the United World Wrestling (UWW) had given the Federation a grant worth 60,000 USD to purchase Generator, Bus, treadmill and some other equipment. The Bayelsa State Governor also pledged to match this kind gesture;
(xvii) Agreed to update and make the Federation website functional in order to attract more likers.
