The victory added to Nigeria’s growing medal haul at the championships, continuing an impressive outing for the country in Accra.
Meanwhile, controversy surrounded the women’s 100m final after Team Nigeria officially lodged a protest over the result involving Rosemary Chukwuma.
Chukwuma was initially awarded the silver medal despite believing she had crossed the line first in the tightly contested race.
Nigerian officials have now filed an appeal, insisting the sprint star should have been declared the gold medallist.
The final verdict on the protest is still being awaited, with Team Nigeria hopeful that the appeal could result in an upgrade from silver to gold for Chukwuma.
