In an exclusive chat ahead of the Nigeria vs Tanzania match, Osimhen reflected on Nigeria’s recent disappointment in Morocco last month and described the AFCON opener as an opportunity for redemption.

“Of course, last month was really disappointing. It’s not how we thought it would be, but life happens,” Osimhen said. “We’ve moved on, but the memories still linger. Now we want to use this opportunity to send a clear message that we still have it in us.”

The Napoli striker praised the atmosphere within the Super Eagles camp, highlighting the intensity of training sessions and the unity within the squad.

“The coach has been doing an amazing job since camp opened. The spirit in the squad has been very high, and training has been really intense,” he added. “I believe so much in this squad, the coaching staff, and everyone associated with this team.”

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s clash with Tanzania, Osimhen stressed that Nigeria will approach the match with full commitment, while maintaining respect for their opponents.

“We are not underrating anyone in our group, but we know we are among the favourites,” he said.

“For us, it’s like going to war. Tuesday is the first battle, and we will give everything to actualise our dream of winning the AFCON. It won’t be easy, and we still have a long way to go.”

Osimhen also provided an update on his fitness, confirming he has recovered from a recent hamstring injury and is ready to contribute.

“I’m okay now. I just came back from a hamstring injury, and I want to give a big shout-out to my club, Galatasaray,” he said.

“They managed me very well and did everything possible to make sure I got some games before joining the national team.”

The striker concluded by acknowledging the strong relationship between club and country, emphasizing his commitment to both.

“If I’m playing here, I’m thinking about my club, and if I’m there, I’m thinking about the Super Eagles,” Osimhen said. “We complement each other, and I’m very grateful.”
