Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has set plans in motion for the country’s under-19 national team’s outing at this year’s African youth championship, even as the executive committee will also add the senior squad to its projections in the coming days.
Sports247 reports that these disclosures were provided by NVBF president, Engineer Musa Nimrod while commending the country’s men’s senior team for picking a ticket to the 2026 African Volleyball Nations Cup, which is scheduled to hold later this year in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

The team got a spot in the continental volleyball showpiece scheduled for September 7th to 21st after recording a fourth consecutive victory at the ongoing Zone 3 qualifiers in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where the spikers pulled off a 3-1 win over Benin Republic on Friday.
Nimrod admitted it was not an easy flight for the squad, as Benin Republic claimed the opening set 25-21 in a terse encounter filled with controversial officiating, following which the Nigerians responded strongly to level the match by taking the second set 25-21.
They then romped stronger to dominate the remaining sets 25-15 and 25-20 to give Benin their first defeat of the qualifiers, while extending Nigeria’s unbeaten run to four matches – having earlier defeated Niger Republic 3-1, Côte d’Ivoire 3-0 and Togo 3-1.
Nigeria will conclude the qualifying campaign on Saturday against Burkina Faso, but they have already joined Ghana in qualifying from Zone 3 for the African Volleyball Nations Cup finals in DR Congo; much to the delight of Nimrod, who expressed satisfaction with the game’s progress in the country.
While hailing the performance in Abidjan, the NVBF president thanked all fans, journalists and stakeholders who motivated the squad to victory, even as he also revealed that preparations are already underway for the country’s under-19 boys ahead of their continental outing in Egypt.
Nimrod added, “As we continue our journey, preparations are underway for our under-19 boys’ national team ahead of their upcoming competition in Egypt. We ask for your prayers and support, as we work to overcome a few remaining challenges and we are confident everything will fall into place.
“We are also delighted with the steady growth of volleyball in Nigeria. Our recent qualifications for the competition in Congo and our women’s team for Kenya are clear signs that the sport is moving in the right direction. Thank you once again for your continued support.
“On behalf of the board of Nigerian Volleyball Federation, I sincerely thank you all for your unwavering support. Your commitment to promoting volleyball in Nigeria has helped to project the Federation. Please keep reporting our successes and helping us grow the game. God bless you all.”
