Nigeria Unveils 13-Man LOC As National Sports Commission Steps Up Preparations For Maiden West African Para Games

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has inaugurated a 13-man Local Organising Committee (LOC) ahead of the first-ever West African Para Games (Zones A and B), scheduled to take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from November 26 to December 4, 2025.

The move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to position Nigeria as Africa’s preferred host nation for major international sporting events, a key pillar of the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE).

The NSC, working in collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN), announced that the LOC will be led by Achakpo Victor, who has been tasked with delivering a seamless and world-class championship.

Speaking on the announcement, the Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to raising the organisational benchmark for every event hosted on Nigerian soil.

“We have recorded commendable successes with recent international competitions Nigeria has hosted, including the CAA U18/U20 Athletics Championships in Abeokuta and the National Sports Festival. This one will not be an exception,” Olopade stated.

He emphasized the strong collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria under the leadership of Sunday Odebode, noting that Nigeria’s growing influence in para sports leadership played a crucial role in securing the hosting rights.

“We are working closely with the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, and its President, Sunday Odebode, was instrumental in bringing this competition to our country. We are confident that all para-athletes from across West Africa will enjoy their stay in Abeokuta and Nigeria at large,” the DG added.

The appointed LOC comprises respected figures across sports administration, logistics, and para sports development. Members include Babatunde Adeluola, Adesiyan Abimbola, Musa Mustapha, Fayigbe Olubusiyi, Kelechi Onwudiwe, Michael Obasi, Deji Aladegbemi, Muhammed Amin Mahmud, Joy Mayaki, Henrietta Ehiobor, and Hauwa Sulaibu.
Suleiman Isah will serve as Secretary.

Preparations are expected to intensify over the coming weeks as Nigeria looks to once again demonstrate its organisational capacity and regional leadership in para sports.
