Nigeria to face Equatorial Guinea after CAF reinstatement

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face two time African champion Equatorial Guinea in its final group B match at the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana after the Confederation of Africa Football cleared the central African country to participate in the Championship in place of Kenya.

Meanwhile Kenya football Federation has vowed to fight against the reinstatement of Equatorial Guinea 10 days before their supposed first game against Zambia at the tournament starting from November 17.

The FKF say they will continue to camp the Harambee Starlets in preparation for the championships.

Equatorial Guinea had been excluded by CAF in October for fielding an ineligible player which gave Kenya a lifeline to the tournament.

CAF on Wednesday CAF reversed that decision after Equatorial Guinea appealed the decision and were restored to the finals in place of Kenya where they are billed to play Zambia on the 18th of November before facing Nigeria’s Super Falcons six days later.

In a statement released by the Kenya Football, the federation has vowed to take the matter to FIFA and CAS for proper intervention. ” We are profoundly astonished by the Appeal Board of Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) decision to reinstate the Equatorial Guinea women football team to the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations, 10 days to the commencement of the tournament.

That notwithstanding, in our protest to CAF dated August 22, 2018 we stated and still have reasons to believe that one Annette Jacky Messomo is not eligible to play for the Equatorial Guinea women football team, as she is not a bonafide citizen of the country, having lived and played all her football in Cameroon and Europe.

Consequently, we have written to CAF expressing our displeasure with November 7, 2018, ruling and initiated an appeal process at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), with a view to having Kenya included in the tournament and/or stopping the same from commencing until the matter is heard and resolved.
