Speaking with confidence ahead of next year’s Davis Cup playoff against Morocco, Ochei said the federation believes the national team has what it takes to compete at a higher level and break into the elite tier of world tennis.
“Qualifying for World Group 2 is a positive step for us, but our ambition does not stop there,” Ochei said. “We are targeting promotion to World Group 1, and we believe the team has the quality and character to achieve that.”
The NTF president noted that recent improvements in preparation, player commitment and federation planning have boosted confidence within the camp ahead of the crucial playoff.
“The Davis Cup playoff against Morocco will be tough, but we are confident,” he added. “If we prepare well and give our best, there is no reason why Nigeria cannot reach the top tier of world tennis.”
Ochei also stressed that promotion would be a major milestone for Nigerian tennis, helping to raise the country’s profile globally and inspire younger players.
“Reaching World Group 1 will show that Nigerian tennis is moving in the right direction,” he said. “It will motivate our players and encourage more investment in the sport.”
Nigeria will face Morocco in the playoff next year, with a place in World Group 1 at stake.
