The tournament began on a challenging note for Nigeria, who suffered back-to-back defeats against Zimbabwe and Brazil.
They rebounded with a win over Tanzania but stumbled again against hosts Rwanda. The Female Yellow Greens have since gained momentum with consecutive victories over Cameroon and Sierra Leone.
Despite the recent upturn in form, Nigeria remains outside the top four due to an inferior net run rate of 0.224, compared to Zimbabwe’s 0.678 and Tanzania’s 2.220.
A win against Malawi today is crucial to their semi-final ambitions, but they will also be relying on favourable outcomes from other fixtures.
Tanzania face a tough test against unbeaten table-toppers Uganda, while Zimbabwe take on Cameroon.
The final round of group matches will be played on Wednesday, with Nigeria set to face Uganda in what could be a decisive clash ahead of the semi-finals on Friday.
The Kwibuka Women’s T20i Tournament, established in 2014 to commemorate the victims of the Rwandan genocide, has grown into a key fixture on the women’s cricket calendar in Africa.
Kenya remains the most successful team in the competition’s history with four titles, while hosts Rwanda have won it once. Uganda clinched the 2024 title, with Zimbabwe finishing as runners-up.
