Nigeria Starting XI vs DR Congo: Chelle Rings Changes As Akor Drops To Bench

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled his starting lineup for tonight’s decisive FIFA World Cup playoff showdown against DR Congo, introducing two significant changes aimed at tightening the team’s structure in Rabat.

Semi Ajayi and Frank Onyeka return to the fold, replacing Akor Adams and one other from the previous lineup.

The tactical tweak reflects Chelle’s preference for extra stability in midfield and improved defensive organisation as Nigeria bids to seal qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali retains his spot between the sticks, shielded by a back four of Benjamin Fredrick, Calvin Bassey, captain Wilfred Ndidi and Zaidu Sanusi. Ndidi once again leads the team as he anchors the defence.

In midfield, Onyeka is joined by Oluwasemilogo Ajayi to provide grit and control, while Alex Iwobi is tasked with dictating play and linking up with the attack.

Up front, Victor Osimhen spearheads the forward line, supported by the electric wing duo of Samuel Chukwueze and Ademola Lookman, both expected to stretch the Congolese defence and create scoring opportunities.

With qualification on the line and DR Congo known for their resilience, Chelle will be hoping these adjustments give Nigeria the balance and firepower required to get the job done.
