Board member of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Victor Hember, has expressed strong confidence in Nigeria’s preparedness ahead of this week’s crucial World Group II playoffs of the Davis Cup against the Uzbekistan Davis Cup Team.
Speaking on preparations at the host venue, Hember revealed that extensive planning structures have been put in place, with multiple committees working round the clock to ensure a smooth and successful event.
“At the camp, we have a camp that was set up, and the activities are at high peak there now, and I tell you we’re very, very ready,” Hember said. “The central planning committee set up subcommittees — seven in number — and all of them are working assiduously towards delivering a very successful event.
“The technical committee responsible for the team and preparation are doing marvellously well. The medical and doping committee are set, and the venue committee is also working heavily.”
Nigeria earned the right to host the playoff tie after progressing from the African Group III tournament in Zimbabwe, a development officially confirmed by the International Tennis Federation.
The Nigerian squad for the encounter includes Adeleye Daniel, Emmanuel Michael, Bulus Christopher, Abua Canice, and Alafia Ayeni, who will feature across both singles and doubles matches.
A victory over Uzbekistan would mark a major milestone for Nigerian tennis, lifting the country into World Group II and placing them on the pathway toward World Group I — just a step away from the elite tier of global men’s team tennis and the prestigious Davis Cup World Finals.
With organisational structures in full motion and the players in camp, Nigeria heads into the playoff with confidence, hoping to make history on home soil.
