Nigeria Rise in Latest FIFA Rankings

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed four places in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, released on Friday, 17 October moving up to 41st position globally.

The improvement comes after a spell of good results during the period under review especially the back to back victories against Lesotho and Benin Republic at the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifying series.

The results ultimately secured a play off slots for the team in their bid to qualify for football biggest competition billed for USA,  Canada and Mexico.

On the African continent, Nigeria ranked 6th  top-performing nations, reflecting improved performances in recent matches.

Morocco continues to lead Africa, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire rounding out the top five.

The latest rise provides a psychological and motivational boost for the Super Eagles ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifiers and continental engagements.

It also enhances Nigeria’s prospects in seeding and tournament draws, particularly as they prepare for next month’s crucial continental playoff in Morocco and will be key at the FIFA 2026 Intercontinental playoffs inarch 2026.

However, the Super Eagles must sustain consistency in competitive fixtures in order to maintain or improving this ranking.

Nigeria’s upward movement signals a renewed sense of ambition and momentum as the Super Eagles aim to return to the FIFA World Cup after they missed out of 2022 edition in Qatar.
