Initially slated to commence on August 26, the NPFL kickoff for the 2023/24 season has been postponed to September 8-10.

The decision to extend the start date was made in order to ensure thorough preparation for a complete season, as the competition will not be played in an abridged format.

The IMC’s original proposal for the new season mirrored the structure of the recently concluded season, but this proposition was later overturned by club owners.

Subsequently, the IMC has opted to delay the season start to accommodate necessary preparations and align with their vision for a full and competitive campaign.

The rescheduling of the NPFL season aims to provide ample time for the development and readiness of the NPFL Live App, an essential tool for broadcasting matches.

Tests and training for camera operations are currently underway at various stadia to ensure the seamless implementation of the digital platform.

In response to the scheduling conflicts arising from the participation of four Nigerian teams in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, the IMC clarified that these continental clubs will begin the season simultaneously with the remaining 16 clubs.

This decision aims to ensure fairness and maintain the competitive balance within the league.

The NPFL Board and its partners have also shared their anticipation for the NPFL Live App, revealing plans to broadcast over 300 matches throughout the upcoming season.

The commitment to enhancing fan engagement and expanding the accessibility of NPFL matches is evident in their ambitious broadcasting goals.

Furthermore, a significant event on the NPFL calendar is the draw ceremony for the new season, scheduled to take place in Lagos later this week.

This ceremony will play a crucial role in shaping the fixture schedule for the upcoming season, adding an element of excitement and anticipation for both players and fans alike.

As the new resumption date approaches, the football community in Nigeria is eagerly looking forward to witnessing the launch of the NPFL’s exciting new season, complete with technological advancements and competitive football action.
