Nigerian midfielder Hamzat Ojediran has completed a move from French Ligue 1 side RC Lens to Major League Soccer outfit Colorado Rapids, marking a new chapter in his rapidly developing career.
The Rapids confirmed the acquisition on Thursday, announcing that the 22-year-old has signed a long-term contract running through the 2028–29 season, with club options extending the deal to 2031.

Ojediran will occupy an international roster slot as Colorado prepares for the new MLS campaign, which begins on February 22 away to Seattle Sounders.
Reacting to the signing, Rapids head coach Matt Wells described Ojediran as a key addition to his squad.
“Hamzat is a brilliant addition to the group,” Wells said. “He has the elite mentality, technical ability and physicality required to compete at the highest level. His experience in European football, combined with his ability to break up play and stop opposition counter-attacks, will help us impose our dominant style.”
Ojediran arrives in MLS after spending two seasons with RC Lens, where he made 17 appearances in the French top flight and scored one goal.
Known for his defensive discipline and athletic presence in midfield, he gained valuable experience competing at a high level in Europe.
Colorado Rapids president Padraig Smith also expressed confidence in the Nigerian’s impact at the club.
“We’re excited to bring a player of Hamzat’s calibre into our group,” Smith said. “He offers outstanding physical presence, explosiveness and defensive awareness in midfield.
He fits perfectly into Matt’s system and is hungry to continue his development while contributing to our success.”
Before his move to France, Ojediran began his professional career in Albania and later spent time on loan in Hungary, experiences that helped shape his adaptability and growth as a midfielder.
The switch to MLS represents a significant step for the Nigerian prodigy, who will now look to establish himself as a key figure for the Rapids while continuing his upward trajectory on the international stage.
