‘Nigeria–Poland Sports Alliance Takes Shape’ — SSA Adeboye Meets Polish Ambassador in Abuja to Boost Grassroots Development

In a major diplomatic and sports development engagement, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, held a high-level strategic meeting with the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Michal Cygan, at the Polish Embassy in Abuja.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Poland, with both parties exploring strategic areas of collaboration aimed at advancing grassroots sports development and youth empowerment.

Speaking during the meeting, Adeboye emphasized the importance of international partnerships in building a sustainable and globally competitive sports ecosystem in Nigeria.

“Grassroots sports remain the backbone of our national development strategy. Collaborations like this will open new opportunities for our young talents, providing exposure, structure, and access to global best practices.”

He noted that Nigeria is committed to leveraging sports as a tool for youth development, national unity, and economic growth, while actively seeking partnerships that can enhance technical capacity and infrastructure at the grassroots level.

“We are intentional about building a system that nurtures talent from the grassroots to the global stage. Partnerships with countries like Poland will play a vital role in achieving this vision.

In his remarks, Ambassador Michal Cygan expressed Poland’s willingness to deepen cooperation with Nigeria, particularly in areas such as sports training, technical exchange programmes, youth engagement, and institutional collaboration.

The discussions also explored opportunities for joint initiatives, capacity building, and knowledge sharing that would benefit both countries while strengthening diplomatic ties.

The meeting marks another significant step in the SSA’s ongoing efforts to position Nigeria as a leader in grassroots sports development in Africa, while creating pathways for international collaboration and investment.

With both sides expressing optimism, the Nigeria–Poland engagement is expected to translate into impactful partnerships that will further drive the growth and transformation of grassroots sports across the country.
