Nigerian international Alex Iwobi was in action for Arsenal in their 2 – 1 win against Huddersfield Town in the English Premier League on Saturday. The Super Eagles winger put the London Gunners in front in the 16th minute of the encounter and could have gotten more in the one-sided encounter.

 

 

 

Iwobi has now scored a total of three goals and gathered five assists for the Gunners this season in 23 league appearances.

Nigerian International Leon Balogun was not listed for action in Brighton and Hove Albion’s 3 – 1 home defeat to Burnley in the EPL on Saturday. Balogun played all 90 minutes for The Seagulls in their 3 -1 away win against West Brom in a midweek FA Cup fixture. The defender will be hoping to be in the team’s starting lineup once again when they face Derby County at home in a FA Cup fifth round match on February 16.

 

 

Super Eagles skipper John Mikel Obi was in action for Middlesbrough when they took on table toppers Leeds United in a championship match on Saturday. The Nigerian international played all 90 minutes of the encounter which ended in a 1 – 1 draw. With the draw, Middlesbrough remains 5th on the log as they continue their promotion push with seven points behind the leaders Leeds United with a game in hand.

 

Nigerian star Semi Ajayi was in action for championship side Rotherham United in a 1 – 1 draw against Wigan Athletic on Saturday. The Super Eagles player was deployed in the defensive midfield position in front of the back four and was instrumental in his team’s performance. Rotherham is currently 21st on the championship log and in danger of a drop to the lower division.

Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo was on for 90 minutes but was unable to help his championship team Stoke City salvage any point as they lost at home to West Bromwich Albion at the Bet365 stadium. Dwight Gayle scored the only goal of the encounter in the 25th minute and they held on for the win.

In Italy the Nigerian duo of Sadiq Umar and Kingsley Michael were in action for Perugia in their 2 – 1 home loss to Palermo in the Italian Serie B on Saturday. Michael played all 90 minutes of the encounter while Umar who was yellow carded in the 66th minute was substituted for Federico Melchiorri who got the home side’s consolation goal in the 89th minute. Umar is yet to score for Perugia since joining in January.

Nigerian youngster Victor Osimhen was in action for Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian top flight as they played out a 1 – 1 draw against Oostende on Saturday. Jeremy Perbet converted a penalty for the home side in the 78th minute but they failed to hold on to their lead as Oostende’s Zarko Tomasevic equalized for the away side in the 90th minute of the game.

Super Eagles B playmaker Kelechi Nwakali was a 73rd-minute substitute in FC Porto B’s 3 – 3 draw away from home to Academico Viseu. Nwakali was brought in for Gleison to shore up the team’s midfield.

Nigerian international Steven Odey was in action and played all 90 minutes in FC Zurich’s 3 – 1 home win against the Grasshoppers on Saturday.

Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi was a 54th-minute substitute in Bursaspor’s 2 – 0 away loss to Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday. Shehu replaced attacking midfielder Henri Saivet.

Super Eagles shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi was in action for Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs in their Premier Soccer League encounter against Orlando Pirates on Saturday as they played out a 1 – 1 draw at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg. Akpeyi who recently joined the Amakhosi in the January transfer window had been a topic of mixed feelings by the fans of the club.
